ਗਣਤੰਤਰ ਦਿਵਸ 2026 (Republic Day 2026)
India’s Republic Day is celebrated every year on January 26. This day holds a very important place in the history of the country. It is a symbol of pride and sovereignty. On this day in 1950, the Constitution of India came into force, and India became a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic. Through the Constitution, the nation took a historic step towards governing itself.
After gaining independence, the biggest challenge before India was to draft a Constitution that could protect the country’s diversity, democratic values and the rights of its citizens. Under the leadership of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the Constituent Assembly prepared the Indian Constitution after nearly 2 years, 11 months and 18 days of hard work. The Constitution is based on the principles of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.
With the implementation of the Constitution on January 26, 1950, India completely broke away from the systems created under British rule and established its identity as a democratic republic. From that day onward, the rule of law began in the country, and every citizen was granted equal rights, irrespective of religion, caste or class.
Today, Republic Day is celebrated across the country with great respect and pride. In the capital, Delhi, a grand parade is held on Kartavya Path (earlier known as Rajpath), showcasing India’s military strength, cultural diversity and technological capabilities. The President hoists the national flag, and colourful tableaux from various states are displayed.
